Florida Bonsai
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a good list of all possible trees that will grow in florida (without needing a miracle). I would specifically like to know if it is possible to grow: any types of maple, birch, beech, hornbeam, oak, and zelkova serrata (Japanese elm). I'm hoping I won't be only able to grow tropical trees as I don't like any ficus varieties or the juniper species/pines, thanks in advance for any help.

To get trees that will do well in your climate, it helps to work with native species.
Florida has several native oak trees: laurel oak, sand live oak, myrtle oak, southern live oak. Red maple is a native tree in Florida. You have a native dogwood species (swamp dogwood) and dogwoods often make beautiful bonsai. And you have a native boxwood species (aptly enough florida boxwood), which is also a good bonsai subject.
