Snapped branch

I have a chinese elm which I love and cherish, but I'm no expert on shaping and pruning. To my heartbreak, my son got hold of my shears and took off a branch and the tree has lost its balance. After a few tears, I put the branch in some soil and perlite in the hope it might root. I don't know what I should do with the tree. Should I take out the opposite branch? It will be more balanced but it will be top heavy. Or should I wait and see if the stub gets shoots? I live in England and keep the tree indoors most of the time. I'll try and put some pictures up of before and after.

Shelagh,

Hello and welcome. Styling questions are subjective and not all see things the same way. Remember that it's a lot easier to cut a branch off than to regrow one. When in doubt wait, you can always cut it later.

Thank you! That's what I'll do.
