Need help with a unknown tree

Good evening and please help an absolute Novice.

This is Mr Miyagi the Third
Capture.JPG
It was a gift and I have no idea what sort of tree it is and therefore no Idea how to care for it.

The leaves were dry and crispy when the tree came to me and I need to know how to bring his mojo back.

Anyone have insight they can share, I am grateful for anything

Could be Boxwood. I'll wait on Norm taking a guess.

Could be, but if it is, it is in REALLY bad shape. Boxwood leaves should be a deep, lustrous green:

Looks like someone "gifted" you with a nearly dead tree.

Oh wow, looks like the end if near for poor Miyagi the Third.

I have sat him on the windowsill and am providing water as per the soil dictates so hope I am giving him a chance to make an epic return to the land of the living.
