Ficus Microcarpa Ginseng

Hello, first post and complete novice!

I've had a Ficus Ginseng Microcarpa (of the 'common or garden' IKEA variety!) for over a year now. I've noticed it's growing an aerial root down from the junction of the two main stems. It's about as thick as your thumb/finger and about 6cm long with lots of hair rootlets growing from it - but not yet reaching the soil. It doesn't look great where it is and I would prefer to remove it.

My question is, if chopped off, would it sprout new growth if planted?

Secondly it'll leave a huge wound on the main trunk, without using cut paste is there anything that I would need to do to promote healing?
