I have a ligustrum that has had its roots cut too much and hardly enough to survive
due to this obviously all leaves have fallen.
whats the method to try a save from dying?
I think I still have some time and I have been misting and keeping out of direct strong sunlight
any suggestions?

Marc,
I've done some work with Privet and from my experience new roots will fill the pot within a season. If it is on the mend you should be OK. You really have not given us much information to go on.

did you check out the link gnome gave you about information we need to be able to give you good answers?
But at this point mainly two things:
If you are not sure if it is still alive, scrape a bit of bark off a main branch. If it is green and moist under the bark it is alive. If it is gray/ brown and dry/hard under it, it is dead. If the branch appears dead, do the same test on the trunk. If the trunk is dead, the tree is gone. Nothing you can do then.
If the tree seems to be alive, post a couple pictures of the tree and the soil it is in.

Can try post more later when at home
There was some green last week when checked
When root pruned it was reported into good quality bonsai soil
Free draining but can hold some water
It's mainly been kept in bathroom to keep humid out of light etc but I did briefly put into a standing shelf greenhouse but now back in as we are getting the odd cold UK night
I have been watering and misting with well diluted rhizotonic
I think it has a fighting chance to survive.
I need help on best conditions to help.
