well I guess I can help a little.there is a show and plant sale at the buffalo erie botanical gardens may 19-20 it is a small show and plant sale mostly garden plants tho.there is also the 2012 national exabition at the fair and expo center 2695 east henrietta rd. rochester,ny june 9-10 can't wait for this one !!!
the reason I don't share much is that after sitting in on a few demos in the buffalo chapter and being snubnosed by the old farts that run the show I decided to go at it on my own.I have delt with the rochester branch on a few occations and they are a great bunch of guys I had a great conversation with bill valavanis last time and he showed me all of his spectacualar suiseki stones, but its a 2 hour drive to rochester which makes it hard to make meetings.I'm going to see this year if my chapter is a little more welcoming at the show in may,but only time will tell

Hey Man - thanks for posting your activities in Buffalo.
FYI - there is also this other group, don't know if you are aware -
https://bonsaiinbuffalo.com/

In any case there are a lot of activities coming up in May throughout Upstate NY, including a club show in Rochester - home club for Bill Valavanis, a good friend and mentor for our club in Utica. I'll list them in separate posts, and of course, the U.S. NATIONAL Bonsai Exhibition will be covered. BTW - a two hour drive is well worth the time for this level of quality bonsai.

Thanks again.

Thanks Man for posting this and I hope you can attend the banquet & auction. I can not stay into the evening hours this time. In previous symposiums (also sponsored by Bill V.) the banquets/auctions were the real highlights of the weekend events and I cherish the items won at auction. The dinner hour is usually fun-filled with speakers of diverse backgrounds and good humor.

I'll be attending on Saturday also with a small group from our local club(s). One week away and I'm sooo excited.

Damn! I was really looking forward to the 'yoda search' - figured it would be a no brainer!

I'll definitely be at the Marc Noelanders demo at 1 PM. Black glasses, black bonsai shirt.

The 3rd National Bonsai Exhibition is now history. "Beyond Awesome". Perhaps the finest gathering of bonsai ever in America, and also a sales/vending area to satisfy all your needs. A huge thank you to Bill Valavanis and his army of helpers and sponsors. I regret that I was not able to stay the full two days.

I trust that the events in Indianapolis were a success as well. So glad that Manix 5 posted here and 'got the word out'.

Tom - I think we had 3 members of the Indianapolis Bonsai Club display trees at the National Bonsai Exhibition this past weekend. I haven't heard how they did yet. The Show in Indianapolis was very nice. I have posted a link if anyone cares to view the photos.
Regards,
Brad

We don't often get follow-ups with any photos from the events posted in this thread - and I don't take ANY pictures personally. But thank to our unofficial club photographer we do have these pics from the weekend show in Utica. Click on the bright red bougainvillea to see the gallery - and keep in mind that this is in upstate New York - https://www.mvbonsai.com/

Forgive me for posting this in 2 different threads! I'm just so proud.

It is our club's 7th birthday - we always celebrate in July.

The annual picnic & silent auction is Saturday July 14 at the Ilion (NY) marina pavilion along the canal on Route 51 on the north side of the village.

The club provides the cold drinks and asks that everyone bring a 'dish to share', and to please donate some bonsai related items for the auction. Typically there will be a very large assortment of starter trees, pots, tools and wire, along with some higher level bonsai surprises and some general garden supplies. This is our club's main fundraiser for the year and it is a fun-filled family affair. Always plenty of good food and friendly socializing.

All are welcome - especially anyone from outside the club who may have seen our recent exhibits and is considering joining and those who are having difficulty finding sources of inexpensive bonsai material.

See www.mvbonsai.com for more info.
