White powder/wax on bonsai leaves?

I bought a Japanese maple bonsai for my boyfriend and am taking care of it for about a week until I give it to him. I'm completely new to this and I've been trying to care for it as best I could according to the care instructions I received, but I've noticed a white powder/wax on the leaves. Am I doing something wrong? How do I fix it?

Justletgoxx,

Might be powdery mildew. Try searching the forum for that term. In the meantime remove the loose moss, it interferes with your ability to judge how damp the soil is. Increasing air movement should help too.
